Social Networking

A lot of excellent & 'interesting' ideas covered during this process some however I have a problem with usefulness for libraries (such as facebook).

The process has given the opertunity to explore options that may have otherwise dismissed (such as blogs, wikis etc)

I have created a Facebook page (as a lot of friends have done), & find it completely confusing jumble of nonesence

Podcasts

I do not like this tool & first thought was WHY would a library use.

I then thought of storytimes, authot talks etc (subject to copyright).

After reading other comments I could see advantage of posible usage for home library service patrons, this would 'link' them better to the library by able to benefit from all library programs.

Answer boards and social searching

Answer boards are a great way for the public to get general feedback or answers to direct questions.

I however feel that libraries should encourage use of local 'ask a librarian' online or in person.

Another option to keep it local is to set up a site for local business, residents etc to contribute answers, hopefully bringing the community closer & show diversity of knowledge.

Wikis

I found this very interesting & can see benefit for book clubs etc.

The video gave me more ideas of how this an be used by the general public (me included), had always thought Wiki's a trend, but now realise very useful.

RSS

I had thought that RSS for the more internet savy users, during this exercise I found that it is very easy & useful tool.

I first went for the obvious library links, but then looked at other areas in my job that would benefit council to keep 'on top' of current trends etc. in urban planning, environment & more, this will take time to filter but once set up will be a very useful tool.

RSS also could be used in libraries to include on library blogs for public, keeping up with latest releases, staff knowledge base enhancements etc.

Flickr

My first attempt to upload photo from Flickr as part of the Library Learning 2.0
Yes, finally worked - had to some detective work.
I had problems with expecting the enter key to display image - where I had to click upload photo.
Might be nice to have the upload button next to each image address
Anyway the reason I chose this image is that I did not realise that Queen Elizabeth II came through Wyong during 1954

Blogs I have found

I find blogs that related to library services, programes, book reviews etc very benificial for staff & public alike, In my libray position I am alerted to several blogs which are very useful, however the ramblings of some blogs make me wonder why?

Oosterdam blog

I did a very baisc digital course on the Oosterdam (cruise ship, Inside Passage Alaska) & set up blog etc in myspace, however have problem adding to it without sound full of myself. Check out http://jules56h.spaces.live.com/default.aspx for pics of trip.

Hopefully this will help me use blogging to communite to friends when on trips etc.

Back to work

Returning to work from holiday to LA/Canada/Alasian cruise/Hawaii thought about time I did the Learning 2.0 course.

A bit daunting to start -
showing to the world that I may have 'bluffed' my way through things ;-)
